What are the most effective ways to advertise a home for sale?

In 2006, when home buyers were asked where they first learned about the house they bought, 36% said real estate agents; 24% responded the internet; 15% indicated yard signs; 5% said newspaper advertisement; 8% said friend/relative/neighbor; 8% said the builder; 1% said home magazine; 3% knew the seller.

These numbers indicate that nearly 60% of home buyers came from the real estate agent themselves and the internet.  Times are changing and the internet and the type of information you put on the internet (pictures, description, etc.) is crucial to having a good first impression and getting your house sold in this market!
